
Montgomery Community College is now partnering with the USCCA to offer approved firearms training and short-term gunsmithing courses. Classes are taught by nationally and internationally known gunsmiths and craftsmen who share their expertise in courses from basic to advanced techniques. Most classes combine a hands-on and lecture format and range from three days to two weeks in length.

NC Concealed Handgun Permit Class
This class gives you all the state required information, a test and qualification required to apply to your local NC Sheriff’s Office to request a concealed handgun permit. With our instructors combined 60 years plus in NC Law, police interaction, firearms and training, you will leave this class with more than a certificate; you will leave with confidence needed to safely carry a concealed pistol and protect yourself and your family.

First Shots
Not knowing how or where to start can be an intimidating hurdle when learning about shooting and firearm ownership. The First Shots program has been tailor-made for you. With instruction that will include classroom and “live fire”, you will leave knowing how to safely handle, operate and store a firearm. We will provide firearms, hearing protection, eye protection, targets and ammunition for this class. All you need to do is register and show up. Instructor: Mark Dye

Stop the Bleed
Stop the Bleed is a practical skill to have in the firearms industry. Many of the deaths due to severe bleeding that could be controlled if immediate action was taken. Unfortunately, in many situations, there is a delay between the time of the injury and the arrival of a medically trained first responder. In these situations, the civilian responder can be the difference between life and death.
Participants are trained to recognize and respond immediately to life-threatening bleeding using proven techniques for bleeding control. This class includes lectures, discussions, demonstrations of techniques, and opportunities for the participants to practice. Instructor: Marvin Bennett

Beyond the Permit Series
Fundamentals of Movement and Barricades
This course will allow you to gain skills in pistol and carbine use for defensive action. You will learn the fundamentals of shooting around barricades and moving from one location to another. There will be a continuation of how to properly draw, engage and precisely shoot targets, re-holster your pistol and maintain control of an active carbine.
The course will begin with classroom instruction on the basic safety rules of firearms, proper methods of storage and how to have a firearm ready, while secure and safe, in preparation for use.
The class will then move to the MCC range and work on techniques learned in the classroom and each student will test their equipment during the practical shooting portion of this course. The instructor will discuss with student’s different scenarios that could occur, and the instructor will have drills for students incorporating those scenarios. Instructor: Jerry Perkins

Concealed Carry 2.0
This is a class designed for current NC Concealed Carry Permit holders or those that have at least completed the NC Concealed Carry Training Class. The NC Concealed Carry class is designed to ensure the safety of the permit holder. The Concealed Carry 2.0 class is designed to enhance safety skills while instilling confidence in the carrier that they can carry, draw and employ their firearm in an emergency. Drawing the pistol from cover, firing in self-defense and firing at distance. This is a 1-hour class followed by a 4-hour range time. It is highly recommended that you fire the same ammo you carry, in this class. Because of the one-on-one training involved, this class is limited to 12 students. Armorer Courses
Level I Tavor Armorer Course
This course is designed to familiarize Law Enforcement, Industry Professionals, and civilians in the basic maintenance, breakdown, and conversions for the Tavor SAR & X95. Students will attend 2 days of training for the SAR & X95. There are 2 types of certifications. “Certificate of Completion of the Tavor /X95 Armorers course” which would be for civilians who do not have FFL’s and “Certified Armorer” for personnel who possess a valid FFL. - As a participant you will be given a brief history on the design, features and operability of the Tavor models
- Your instructor will go over in detail field disassembly, reassembly, part identification and function checks as well as the principle of operation
- Left-to-Right & Right-to-Left Conversions will be taught, practiced, and tested
- Basic repairs for commonly broken parts
- 9mm Conversions will be taught, practiced, and tested on the SAR and X95
- In addition to the hands-on SAR and X95 tests, there will be a written exam at the end of the course
- Students will have access to discounts on IWI products and a discount on one weapon system
- *The student should arrive with a basic understating of gas operated, semi-automatic rifle systems and how they are field stripped. Not necessarily the Tavor, but any common system such as the AK or AR.

Topics of discussion will include assembly/disassembly, cycle of operations, nomenclature, gas system, barrel twist and length, barrel replacement, aftermarket parts and modifications, ballistic issues, brands, cleaning and maintenance, sights/optics, headspace, firing pin protrusion, along with service and repair.
