MCC Students Drawn to Google® IT Support Professional Certificate Program
Published on Thursday, October 1st, 2020
MCC has filled its third cohort of students pursuing new opportunities or a new work-from-home career. The Google® IT Support Professional Certificate, an online training program developed by Google® and hosted by Montgomery Community College, teaches students the skills needed to start a career in IT support, which is one of the fastest growing fields in North Carolina.
The program is a part of Grow with Google, an initiative that helps ensure the opportunities created by technology are available to everyone. Hosted by the Coursera® online learning platform, the certificate is designed to teach individuals the skills needed for entry-level IT support positions. No prior IT experience is needed. The program includes five courses, with a dynamic mix of video lectures, quizzes and hands-on labs and widgets. Students learn about troubleshooting, customer service, networking, operating systems, system administration and security.

The Google program is overseen by MCC staff person Shavier Mason. “Because many IT jobs can be done from home, this program lays the groundwork for a promising career now and into 2021,” explains Mason. The College has a few Coursera® licenses remaining and new students can enter the certificate program on a rolling basis. Students work at their own pace, and most complete the program within six months.
