MCC Serving Students Off-campus

Montgomery Community College has programs to serve non-traditional students where they are, as not all students are able to access classes on the Troy campus.
Nancy Mortan, Jason Whitley and Ronnie James are MCC’s instructors at Southern Correctional Institution.
The first program, called Eckerd Connects, provides High School Equivalency (HSE) instruction to young people in the juvenile justice system. Around ten students graduate from this MCC program each year, and go on to enjoy a fresh start with further education or job training. Eckerd Connects, which operates youth and family programs in 21 states, offers vocational services, high school equivalency, and career planning using a holistic, wraparound approach.
MCC also offers instruction at Southern Correctional Institution in Troy. Each year over 50 students complete their High School Equivalency, earn a Small Business certificate or complete the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Certification. Students choose from a variety of classes including Customer Service, Principles of Marketing, Real Small Business, Basic Personal Computer Literacy, Personal Quality Improvement, Financial Literacy and Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.
MCC is the leading source for higher education in Montgomery County, partnering with businesses and industries throughout the region to provide training for the county’s workforce. MCC’s staff is committed to the betterment of our local citizens as well as those who choose to come to us for education from other areas of the state and nation.
Whether the goal is to certify in a technical field, to prepare for further academic studies, to obtain a degree to assist in career development, or to take personal interest courses, MCC has opportunities for students to challenge themselves and learn new skills.
