On Saturday, April 12th, the MCC Forestry Program will welcome around 100 students from seven other institutions to the MCC campus for a day of timbersports competition! The annual “Mid-Atlantic Woodsmen’s Meet” is in its 23rd year, with MCC welcoming teams from Allegany College of Maryland, Haywood Community College, Mountain Gateway Community College, Penn State Mont Alto, Penn State University Park, Wayne Community College and West Virginia University.

The competition, which is free and open to the public, begins at 8am on Saturday April 12th on the MCC Campus. Attendees will be able to watch students compete in events such as Dendrology, Archery, Compass & Pacing, Axe Throw, Single Buck, Pulpwood Toss (distance and accuracy), Team Log Roll and Pole Fell. There will also be both men’s and women’s competitions in the following: Bolt Split, Pole Climb, Crosscut Saw, Chainsaw and Horizontal Speed Chop. The day will wrap up Saturday afternoon with a team Tug-of-War!
Attendees will have a chance to see some of the more remote parts of the MCC campus, as they will traverse our beautiful wooded trails to see the different events. Comfortable outdoor shoes would be recommended, and there will be food and beverages for sale throughout the day for cash.
The MCC Forest Management Technology Program would like to thank our sponsors and partners for their support of our event: Environmental Site Keepers, New Indy, Montgomery County Farm Bureau Insurance, John Monroe, Fred Monroe, Boyd McLaurin of Canal Wood, LLC, Bud Taylor, Newport Landowner Services, Daniel W.
