Montgomery Community College and Richmond Community College graduated their first combined Truck Driver Training class this month. All seven students who started the program graduated from the program and earned their commercial driver’s license.
The graduation ceremony occurred on Tuesday, August 20th, with welcome words delivered by college presidents Dr. Chad Bledsoe and Dr. Dale McInnis, of Montgomery Community College and Richmond Community College, respectively.
Senator Dave Craven of the North Carolina General Assembly was on hand to show his ongoing support for this workforce development partnership between the two institutions.
Commencement remarks were given by John Kester, Dean of Engineering and Trades at RichmondCC. Jessica Hamilton, Director of Business and Industry for Montgomery Community College, presented the graduation certificates.
CDL student Justin Smith, who has already started his career in truck driving, had a great experience in the class. “As we embark on this new chapter, remember that the road ahead will have its share of obstacles. There will be long hours, tough weather conditions and moments of solitude. But with each mile we drive we are gaining experience, our confidence, and a deeper understanding of the vital role we play in keeping the day-to-day life and economy moving.”
The combined Truck Driver Training Program includes classroom lecture, range driving and road driving. The colleges hope to announce new CDL classes for fall 2024 and winter 2025.
